Why Build Green?
The resources on our Earth are finite, so it’s important to consider how we use those resources. Right now a huge portion of our natural resources are used for building homes and a huge amount of our water is used for watering lawns.
In addition, the production of homes and any materials used in building homes results in pollution and a large amount of waste. There are ways to minimize the pollution and use our resources in a manner that is sustainable so our children will have as wonderful a place to live as we do.
A green home is one that is healthy, comfortable, efficient, durable and low maintenance. Don’t you want all those things in your home? You can’t always tell a green home just by looking at it. Most green features are below the surface – for example, the way a house is insulated makes a big difference in how efficient it is, but you don’t see the insulation once the house is built. Your green home can be any style you like.
A green home can be expensive if you choose to purchase every high-efficiency gadget on the market, or it can be economical if you design a simpler home with fewer gadgets.
It can be overwhelming to try to grasp all the ways to build or remodel a home to make it green. Don’t worry, one step toward green is better than no step at all!
