Vikki Goodwin opens 41-point lead in Lt. Governor Runoff
Austin, Texas — Initial polling in the Democratic runoff election for Lt. Governor shows 4-term Representative Vikki Goodwin with a 41-point lead over her opponent, steel worker Marcos Vélez.
The poll, conducted by ZtoA Research, included 1,144 likely Democratic primary runoff voters statewide. Rep. Goodwin garnered 66% of the votes, compared to 25% for her challenger. Nine percent of voters remain undecided.
“I am thrilled that Texas voters continue to support my campaign for Lt. Governor,” commented Rep. Goodwin. “The Democratic turnout in last week’s Primary was overwhelming. The results of this poll show that Texas voters believe I am the best candidate to flip the Lt. Governor seat for the first time in decades.”
Poll results further show Rep. Goodwin leading across virtually all demographics and regions. “My broad support stems from the fact that I’m addressing the issues that ALL Texans care about: Education, Healthcare, Clean Water and Affordability,” continued Rep. Goodwin. “My 7+ years of experience in the Texas legislature and the relationships I’ve built with my fellow lawmakers give me the edge.”
Further insights from the polling show that 76% of Democrats, including 75% of Vélez supporters, believe that those who trailed in their primary by a large margin should drop out, so Democrats can unify and focus on beating Republicans. Rep. Goodwin added, “We invite Mr. Vélez and his supporters to join our campaign so together we can turn our sights on defeating Dan Patrick in November.”
